The Makkedaat Grot/Cave is situated in the Baviaanskloof, a malaria and crime free area, 50 kms from the Karoo town, Willowmore in the Eastern Cape. The farm offers a number of clearly marked hiking routes which will lead you to some interesting sites, rock formations and fresh mountain fountain water. With some imagination the rock formations can resemble anything such as the seven dwarfs, a pulpit and even a crocodile!

The terrain is mountainous and and hikes range from easy in the valleys to strenuous when climbing the mountain – it is your choice.

There are also a large number of tracks suitable for mountain biking.

After a long day’s hiking or cycling you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the farm dam.

The 10km 4×4 route offers overnight accommodation along the route in an open bakkrans – what an experience!

It also offers spectacular views of the valley – Upon closer inspection the indigenous plants will keep you spellbound.

Mini Soccer Field – Play a match against fellow guests (If you feel energetic)

“Mistafel” (Dung Table)

At the Swaeltjie Bak you will find the “MisTafel” (Translated to English it means “Dung Table”).

It contains a collection of droppings of the various animals found in the area.

With the droppings there are photographs and brief descriptions of the animals as well as images of their hoof/foot/paw prints.

Picnic Area

There is a Picnic Area available for day visitors just of the Main Road. This is ideal for visitors who need a place to enjoy.
